With the passing of yet another year fresh on our heels and the beginning of 2016 well on its way, it's time create a new year and and a new you. The relationship that we all should be focusing on is the one that includes the most important person in our lives; ourselves.
We often make the mistake of putting others first and focusing their happiness over our own. Everyone deserves time to reflect back to both the positives and negatives of our past and being able to define what makes you, you. In such a case, I use the simple yet daunting expression of; falling in love with yourself over again.
"We live in a society that tells us it’s not okay to express our real feelings or put up a front to make ourselves look as if everything in our lives are perfect. As we all know that in reality, it is far from it."
This is why it is so important to give yourself the ability to reconnect with your inner workings and find a means of self-righteousness. Being able to find peace within yourself is of the utmost importance. You must first be the creator of your own happiness. You can never genuinely love another if you aren’t your first priority. If you were or are currently still struggling in a friendship, family matter, or the main relationship allow yourself space and time away from that partnership. This gives you the opportunity to separate yourself, regain thought, and reestablish yourself.
Time and time again I’ve seen people (including myself) go in and out of various relationships unhappy with the outcome. The reason being, many of us get into relationships when we’re not mentally, physically, and emotionally ready. It takes you getting to a place and point in your life where you’re actually comfortable in your own skin and state of mind. Once you have reached that place, you become more available to new relationships and break ties with old ones weighing you down. I’ve personally arrived at a point in my life where I genuinely love myself again. I’m able to block out negativity and release people that have previously weighed me down or brought unwanted feelings into my life. We’re all human and of course, we make mistakes, but at the end of the day it is up to us to decide what we think is acceptable and what is not.
"As a society we tend to get so wrapped up in what everyone else is doing and how we should be perceived that we often forget what it feels like to focus on our own feelings."
Starting today and every day going forward, make it a point to not strive for perfection but endeavor to become a new and improved, you. With that being said, let this new year be one that allows you to flourish and restructure yourself as a foundation that cannot be broken down. This decision is one that you will gladly thank yourself for later. At the end of the day, the only person that won't let you down; is yourself.
