I have to admit, I was rather hesitant writing this piece because 1. I'm single, 2. I constantly have this debate with my mother who tells me to meet a nice boy at the symphony. I tell her the symphony is filled with yes, maybe potential bachelors, who are themselves on dates. All of them hoping that the girl will go past second base after the first move- because hey guess what, he got a black car to pick you up so he must be marriage material.
So in honor of making my mother happy and to furthur explore the idea that good men can be found "in the bread aisle" - here are my top places to meet men in Los Angeles (or somewhere similar in you own hood!) 1. The Grocery Store
Speaking of the bread asile, everyone needs to eat right? The best time to go is a Sunday or Monday night. This is when they are all there getting ready for the week. One of the BEST places in LA to hang out for PRIME Man Time is at Wholefoods Markets- in the grab and go food section. Lunch or dinner time is just spilling over with hot men everywhere! Come for the salad and stay for the Tall, Dark and Handsome line of available men.
2. A Sports Bar
Go when there is a big game on. Guys are all typically there having a pint after work and with some of their friends- so bring a group of girls, simple jean-and-t get up with heels, and scout out who is available. But a word of advice: Don't ever interrupt guys during a game, no one likes that person.
I don't have a fave bar here because lets face it, any bar in LA with a big screen tv and beer is where the men are. 3. A Bookstore-
I don't mean a big chain book store I mean a small mom and pop looking one. Treat yourself to an almond-vanilla latte and indulge in some Tennessee Williams and see who walks in. Either way you'll walk out as if you went on a mini vacation. My fave bookstore in LA is Book Soup on Sunset Blvd.
On a final note, boys with glasses are sexy. Just think Henry Cavill as Superman. (There you go)
4. The Gym
I know it's the place where you probably feel the least sexy and Los Angeles is filled with model looking women who manage to look like Giselle in nothing but a sports bra, spandex and sweat! But believe it or not, there are nice guys who simply like a good run and are there not for the scene, but because health is important. It may not be the best place to strike up a conversation but attempt a new machine and ask how to use it. There's nothing to hide between the two of you when you're both sweaty and working out and honestly that's what makes it fun.
My Fave LA Spots include Equinox, Soul Cycle, Barry's Bootcamp or Basecamp Fitness.
5. Sports/Athletic Stores
We all kmow guys hate to go shopping. That is unless they are buying some cool new sneakers, a new football or some gym clothes. The fact of the matter is that guys of all shapes and sizes flock to Sporting Goods stores as if there was free beer being handed out.
Take a trip to your nearest sporting goods store and ask a guy for his opinion on running shoes, a surf board or even camping gear. Who knows, you may just have your man AND your first date locked down in one visit.
My fave LA Spots included Lulu Lemon Athletic stores, Champs and ANY surf shop. 6. Through friends-
LA is tough. There are people with odd intentions, everyone wants to know what the other does, so meeting someone through a friend is the best way because you have a reference. Don't do the blind date but rather a do a big group thing so you can see how your date is with his friends which will tell you so much about him. At the end of the day, there is no specific place to meet a guy- if you're meant to meet someone you will, just be prepared!
I always make sure that when I leave the house, I spray perfume and brush my teeth- because a smile is essential and smelling good is how they will always remember you. Remember that no one wants someone who is looking for the party- so be the party. You are the one whose world they should want to be a part of- you're not looking for a new world you are looking for someone to expand it.
Until then, just keep laughing, hanging out with your girlfriends and having the time of your life- because honestly, the best place to meet a guy in Los Angeles is when you're in a good place.
Davina Adjani
I was once told to stop writing and find something I'm good at and I have been writing ever since. I am a San Franciscan in Los Angeles who secretly loves it,a Frasier fanatic obsessed with country music and French Bulldogs. Within five minutes of talking to me you will know all about my family, who are my absolute everything. I live my life fully and honestly, and refuse to be confined by the fear that my intentions maybe misinterpreted. My Oma (grandmother) raised me to believe that love should always be a priority but most importantly, loving yourself is essential in this crazy world and with that in everything I write, I try to give the medicine of reality sugar coated with a sense of humor, hoping that through the toughest of times women know not only do they have the strength to overcome any obstacle but how spectacular they truly are.
